Modern art includes artistic work produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s, and denotes the style and philosophy of the art produced during that era. The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. Modern artists experimented with new ways of seeing and with fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art. A tendency away from the narrative, which was characteristic for the traditional arts, toward abstraction is characteristic of much modern art. More recent artistic production is often called contemporary art or postmodern art.
Modern art begins with the heritage of painters like Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec all of whom were essential for the development of modern art. At the beginning of the 20th century Henri Matisse and several other young artists including the pre-cubists Georges Braque, André Derain, Raoul Dufy, Jean Metzinger and Maurice de Vlaminck revolutionized the Paris art world with "wild", multi-colored, expressive landscapes and figure paintings that the critics called Fauvism. Henri Matisse's two versions of The Dance signified a key point in his career and in the development of modern painting. It reflected Matisse's incipient fascination with primitive art: the intense warm color of the figures against the cool blue-green background and the rhythmical succession of the dancing nudes convey the feelings of emotional liberation and hedonism.
Modern Art is the eleventh studio album by alternative rock musician Matthew Sweet. It was released on Missing Piece in 2011.
The album, available as a CD, 2-LP vinyl set, and digital download., was met with little commercial success, but with favorable reviews. Amazon.com wrote, "Defiantly unorthodox, but often playfully so, Modern Art features 12 new compositions of Sweet's trademark wistful, yearning pop that recall some of Sweet s touchstones: the Beatles, Beach Boys and Big Star", and even notes the work of Sweet's side-players: "Longtime musical cohort Ric Menck (Velvet Crush) does all the drumming on the album (except for "Ivory Tower", which is built on a random drum pattern supplied by Sweet's friend, actor/musician Fred Armisen). Dennis Taylor's deft and urgent guitar lines serve as a running commentary to Sweet's introspective singing. Finished by mastering engineer Glenn Schick, Modern Art promises to be another trend-setting release by Sweet."
Sawing a woman in half is a generic name for a number of stage magic tricks in which a person (traditionally a female assistant) is apparently sawn or divided into two or more pieces.
There remains a debate about the origin of sawing illusions, with some sources saying a magician named Torrini may have performed the first version in front of Pope Pius VII in 1809. However it is more likely that the story is a fiction which has its roots in the writings of the famous French magician Jean Robert-Houdin. In his Memoirs, written in 1858, Robert-Houdin described a sawing illusion performed by a magician named Torrini. Modern magic inventor and historian Jim Steinmeyer has concluded that there was probably no real Torrini and the story was merely a way for Robert-Houdin to play with ideas. It was suggested during a court case in 1922 that the trick can be traced back to ancient Egypt, however this claim has not been substantiated. Wherever the idea originated, until the 1920s it remained just an idea for an effect, rather than a practical application of a method.
Denmark (i/ˈdɛnmɑːrk/; Danish: Danmark [ˈd̥ænmɑɡ̊]), officially the Kingdom of Denmark is a country in Northern Europe. The southernmost of the Nordic countries, it is southwest of Sweden and south of Norway, and bordered to the south by Germany. Denmark is part of Scandinavia, together with Sweden and Norway. It is a sovereign state that comprises Denmark and two autonomous constituent countries in the North Atlantic Ocean: the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Denmark proper has an area of 42,924 square kilometres (16,573 sq mi), and a population of 5,707,251 in January 2016. The country consists of a peninsula – Jutland – and an archipelago of 443 named islands, of which around 70 are inhabited. The islands are characterised by flat, arable land and sandy coasts, low elevation and a temperate climate.

Ø is a piece of land in the valley of the Nørreå in the eastern part of Jutland, Denmark. Its name means island (ø in the Danish language) and probably comes from the island-like approach to this piece of land, although it is completely landlocked and surrounded by meadows.
Ø is famous among lexicographers for the extreme brevity of its name: the single letter Øand for the people there.
Danmark (English: Denmark) is an islet located near Sandvika in the Municipality of Bærum, Norway.
Whilst the original meaning is not exactly verified, the name of the islet reflects Norwegians' (friendly) joking with the relatively small geographical size of Denmark proper. Alike Denmark, this islet is flat, small, and located oversea south of Bærum. The name predates 1814, when the personal union known as Denmark–Norway was dissolved. In a sale of land in the 1780s, it was mentioned that the sale included 'a little island called Denmark' (Danish: en lille ø kaldet Danmark).

The business of modern living takes a toll on us and we gradually loose the interest in exploring the surrounding beauty. A colorful art installation by Olafur Eliasson from Iceland is intended to snap people out of the grayness of everyday city life. A 150 meter long, 3 meter wide and 3 meter high art installation, named the Rainbow Panorama, was mounted on the top of the ARoS museum in Aarhus, Denmark. The construction of this entertaining art project gives the visitors a one of a kind opportunity to see the city through a colored 360° lens. In 2005 french starchitect Jean Nouvel and the Louisiana Museum came together to collaborate on the exhibition 'Jean Nouvel - Louisiana Manifesto'. Ten years on, Nouvel has revisited the museum and shares his thoughts and passion about a place where architecture, nature and art belong together. "At Louisiana," says Nouvel, "each thing is directly felt, and everything is at home". Camera & Edit: Klaus Elmer. K-hole at the DalÃ
Seeing the unknown
Well it might have been a molly
'Cause my mind's being blown
Take the escalator to the next floor
Such a strong sedator, now I can't find the door
You turn around and you don't know where you've been
You look up at the glass dome and the room beings to spin
Let's go out and find the ocean 'cause I think we need a swim
Turn around, start it over, let's begin
Like the minis at the Louvre
Spinning down the aisle
And the paintings of the Louvre
Now i'm feeling very smart
Like a 3-D picture, stereo's gone
It's a total light picture, kaleidoscope
You turn around and you don't know where you've been
You look up at the glass dome and the room beings to spin
Let's go out and find the ocean 'cause I think we need a swim
Turn around, start it over, let's begin
And the k-hole at the DalÃ
Seeing the unknown
Well it might have been a molly
'Cause my mind's being blown
You turn around and you don't know where you've been
You look up at the glass dome and the room beings to spin
